Mission

The mission of the Highland Lakes Elementary School counseling program is to provide comprehensive support services that foster the academic, career, and social/emotional development of each student. Through individual counseling, group guidance, and responsive services, we collaborate with teachers, families, and the community to ensure a nurturing learning environment where every child can succeed and flourish.

Vision

Every student at Highland Lakes Elementary is empowered and supported in an environment of care and respect, enabling them to reach their full academic, social, and personal potential, reflecting our commitment to nurturing every child's aspirations and well-being.

Meet Your School Counselor!

Howdy! I'm Emily Blue, the new counselor at Highland Lakes Elementary. I’ve been with MFISD since January 2019, and over the past 6 years I have taught high school Agriculture and 8th grade Level Up, and served as the Social Emotional Behavior Coach at Marble Falls Elementary. I earned my bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University and just graduated with my M.Ed. in Counseling and Development from Lamar University. I’m passionate about building relationships and helping students discover who they are and who they want to be. I’m excited to bring this passion to HLES and can’t wait to LOVE and INSPIRE our students and families this year!

What's Happening This Month?

This month, I’ll be visiting classrooms to introduce myself and talk about the role of a school counselor. Our "Meet the Counselor" lessons are designed to help students understand how I can support them throughout the year. We’ll explore the different ways I can help, whether it’s through individual sessions, group counseling, or classroom guidance lessons.

Introducing the Counselor Corner
I’m excited to share that I’ve created a Google Site called "Counselor Corner," designed to provide students, parents, and staff with valuable resources and information. Here, you’ll find:
  • Details about our counseling program
  • Upcoming events
  • Helpful tools
  • Ways to connect with me, your school counselor
Explore our site to discover how we are dedicated to fostering a positive and inclusive environment where every student can thrive. I’ll be updating the site throughout the year, so be sure to check back regularly! Click the image to the right to go to the Counselor Corner Website.

Looking Ahead to September
As we move into September, our focus will shift to important character traits like respect, courtesy, and responsibility. We’ll dive into topics such as:
  • Respect and Courtesy: Understanding the importance of treating others with kindness and respect.
  • Responsibility: Learning about accountability, diligence, perseverance, self-management skills, and self-control.
These lessons are designed to help students build strong character and make positive choices in their daily lives.
I’m looking forward to a fantastic year ahead, and I’m excited to connect with each of you!
